Art and Culture

Modena, city of Art, has in its ancient heart of capital city of Duchy of Este, architectural jewels appreciated all over the world: the Cathedral, the Ghirlandina tower and Piazza Grande declared Heritage of Humanity by Unesco, the Ducal Palace. The Estense Library and Gallery host works of art of outstanding value. The province of Modena hosts treasures to discover: Carpi, jewel of Renaissance, Nonontola and its Benedictine Abbey, Sassuolo and its summer Palace, Montale with an archaelogical park and open air museum of Terramare di Montale (medium Bronze age), Maranello and the Ferrari Gallery. Spilamberto and the Traditional Balsamic Vinergar Museum, Vignola and its Castle, the route of fortresses and castles of Este family, Mirandola, Finale Emilia and San Cesario sul Panaro with castles.
Throughout the year, Modena has a rich, intensive cultural life, of which we cite only a few examples here; Serate Estensi, the International Military Bands Festival, Festivalfilosofia, Grandezze e Meraviglie –, as well as numerous trade fairs, markets and antiques exhibitions. Balsamico è dedicated to the Traditional Balsamic Vinergar of Modena and numerous motor related events, Modena Terra di Motori, Modena 100 ore classic, la Mille Miglia.

Gastronomy

Modena province is synonymous of good food. Restaurants provide traditional and creative menus for pleasure of any taste. The wines and flavours routes “Città, Castelli e Ciliegi” and “Terre Piane” lead the visitor to the discovery of traditional food products. In the whole province it is possible to visit firms producing Parmiggiano-Reggiano DOP cheese, Lambrusco wines, Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP and other products.

Land of Motors

Modena, hometown of Enzo Ferrari, is a land of motors. There has always been a deep feeling between Modena province and motoring, the roots going back a long way. A land of motors where the passion of mechanical engineering has a long tradition and the legend of speed is an integral part of its culture. Within a radius of only a few kilometres there are various factories, museums and private collections dedicated to motor vehicles. The Ferrari Factory and the Ferrari Gallery in Maranello, The Maserati Factory, the Pagani Factory, the Museo dell’Auto Storico Stanguellini, the Museo dell’Auto e Moto d’Epoca Panini, the Righini collection, the Lamborghini Museum and the Ducati Museum.

Nature, sport and wellness

In this area, where “good living” has always been a life style, the opportunity to meet nature and relax are not lacking: the natural park of Salse di Nirano, the park of Sassi di Rocca Malatina, aosis, opportunity of trekking and mountain-bike, cycle lanes, river parks, the mountain area of Modena Appennines. Modena Golf & Country Club is located just 10 km outside the town. Salvarola Spa and its wellness centre offer along with traditional spa therapies, treatments using the properties of must and Lambrusco and Trebbiano grapes.
