Reggio-Emilia
is an ancient roman town founded in the 2nd Century
b.C. The oldest buildings, such as the Baptistery,
date
back to Middle Ages. The Cathedral shows clear signs
of Romanesque architecture and houses several fine
Renaissance
sculptures. The 16th Century Church of San Prospero
has interesting frescoes.
In Reggio Emilia the national flag of Italy was first
unfurled at the Sala del Tricolore.
The city is tempting also because of its traditional
cuisine with the outstanding Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese,
this Province being the typical production area of the
world famous sharp cheese.
