Rimini
has always been the European capital of hospitality
and sun&beach tourism.
Besides the summer holidays aspect, the city and its
neighbourhood, with their art and culture, are able
to offer an image as much strong and alluring for the
tourists.
The origins of Rimini date back to the Etruscans. The
Augustus Arch, the Tiberius Bridge, the Amphitheatre
and the "domus del chirurgo" (the house of
the surgeon, with its outfit of medical instruments
and mosaics) remain to testify the Roman period.
In addition to this classical patrimony there are the
evidences of the Middle Ages: the "Arengo"
and the "Podestà" palaces and the renowned
pictorial school of Rimini's Trecento.
The Malatesta's patronage,
that characterize the city, can be observed in the Malatesta
Temple and in the Fortress.
In the hinterland, Santarcangelo
di Romagna has strong traditions and culture:
the Malatesta Fortress, the Museum of usages and customs
and over 200 caves hollowed in the tuff of the hills.
Verucchio, the Malatesta's cradle, was built on the
top of a mountain 332 metres high that dominates the
surrounding land.
Among the flavours of upper Romagna, "cappelletti"
and "strozzapreti" (kinds of pasta), fish
courses and the typical "piadina" (not risen
bread) must be tasted.
Among the wines, the red Sangiovese
and the white Albana
and Trebbiano are the
most famous.
